Ethiopians in the UK deliberated on a new Draft Diaspora Policy at a meeting held on the 3rd December at the London Ethiopian Embassy in the presence of HE Ato Nega Tsegaye, State Minister for Foreign Affairs.
In his speech at the gathering, the State Minister underlined how central it is for the developmental state to enhance public participation as a major force behind the nation building scheme

On 29th October, Ethiopians and foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin residing in the UK raised about 2 million birr, by way of bond purchases, pledges and gifts, on the first Bond Selling Day to be held in London.
According to the UK Renaissance Dam Diaspora Participation Coordination Council, members of the Ethiopian community had already pledged close to one million birr which brings the total to about 3 millions birr.

Ethiopians and foreign nationals of Ethiopian Origin in the United Kingdom have set up a Diaspora Participation Coordination Council for the Great Renaissance Dam, now under construction with resources mobilized by Ethiopians both at home and abroad.

Press Statement - August 5th, 2011, LONDONLast night (4th August), BBC Newsnight broadcast a 17-minute film making allegations of human rights abuses against the Ethiopian government. The timing of this report is guaranteed to inflict maximum damage on those who are suffering from the worst drought for sixty years in our region. It was difficult to respond to allegations in the few minutes given to our Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Abdirashid Dulane, after the film was aired, when we had not been permitted to see the film in advance. We are issuing this statement to put the record straight.

UK Ethiopian Diaspora celebrate the 20th anniversary of May 28 in London
Ethiopian Diaspora members residing in the UK celebrated the 20th anniversary of the demise of the Derg, pledging to mobilize funds for the Renaissance Dam, a symbol of a viable and prosperous Ethiopia, in the presence of a high level Ethiopian delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hailemariam Desalegn
Ethiopian Diaspora in the UK pledge full support for the GTP
Ethiopians and UK citizens of Ethiopian origin have vowed to contribute their share to the Five-Year Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) following discussions and consultations at the Ethiopian Embassy, London on 16th April.
The conference, which drew a cross-section of Diaspora community, successfully concluded its deliberation by issuing a final communiqué.

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi opens Hydropower for Sustainable Development 2011

Guests gathered at the House of Commons on 8th March for the 11th annual Ethiopian Cultural Evening, hosted by Laurence Robertson MP in the Jubilee Room. In his welcoming speech, the Ambassador thanked the British government for the confidence it had displayed towards Ethiopia with its recent large rise in bilateral aid. He also outlined Ethiopian Government policies which fight poverty, empower people and expand education.

16th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly Opens With a Focus on Shared Values
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 31 January 2011- The 16th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union started in Addis Ababa today. Heads of State and Government or their accredited representatives are meeting under the theme of “Towards greater unity and integration through shared values”.
The IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government held its 17th Extra-Ordinary Summit in Addis Ababa, on 30 January 2011, under the Chairmanship of H.E. Meles Zenawi, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic of Ethiopia, and Chairperson of IGAD.
