Top UK companies sample prime Ethiopian coffees

PRESS RELEASE

LONDON, 22 November 2011 - Renowned coffee roaster, Wakefields, which imports high-value Ethiopian coffee, and the Oromia Coffee Producers’ Association led a presentation and coffee tasting at the Ethiopian Embassy today.

Tadesse Meskela and Simon Wakefield, CEOs of the Coffee Producers’ Association and of Wakefield respectively, gave an illustrated presentation in the presence of twenty companies including major roasters and processors.

After the presentation there was a coffee tasting with Sidamo, Harar, Yirgacheffe, Limu, Nekemte and Djimma coffees. Following the coffee tasting exercise, led by international connoisseurs, guests experienced a traditional coffee ceremony with freshly roasted and ground coffee then networked over a lunch of Ethiopian cuisine.

The event will bring an additional market for coffee exports. Wakefields has been in the market for 30 years and currently imports coffee from Ethiopia worth £9 million. It also distributes the coffee to Australia and the USA. Customers include Costa Coffee, Café Nero, Nestle and a total of twenty companies here in London. A buyer of coffee for other high-end consumers and VIPs was also present.
