PM Meles Zenawi - A Profile
Prime Minister Meles has served as Chairman of the Organisation of the African Union, as co-Chairman of the Global Coalition for Africa, and was appointed as Chair of the African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC).
He was the co-Chairperson of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2006, which led to the adoption of the Beijing Action Plan for Partnership in Economic Progress.
He has also been actively involved in IGAD’s efforts to end the conflicts in Sudan and Somalia, and Africa initiatives to seek a solution to the crises in Burundi. In 2004, he was appointed by the former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, as one of the Commissioners to the Commission for Africa.
PM Meles successfully led and played a key role in the struggle to bring down the dictatorial Derg Regime. His outstanding leadership qualities enabled the nation to register double digit economic growth over the past seven consecutive years.
PM Meles is a leader capable of ensuring the renaissance of Ethiopia and implementing the five-year Growth and Transformation Plan effectively. He has an M.A. in Business Administration and an MSc. in Economics.
