Media

Since the new government took over in 1991 the media has been transformed into a thriving free press. There are several foreign-language newspapers published in Ethiopia including the daily Ethiopian Herald, the Reporter, the Monitor, the Addis Tribune, the Sun printed in English, and the Arabic weekly Al-Alem as well as over 100 other Ethiopian government and private newspapers. The Addis Zemen which is a daily Amharic newspaper and has been in circulation for more than 59 years is owned by the government.

Ethiopian television consists of just one channel, called ETV which mostly transmits programmes in Amharic and English. But since 1991 shows programmes in the other main languages Tigrigna and Oromigna.

'Radio Ethiopia' broadcasts its programmes in Amharic, English, French, Arabic, Afar, Oromifa, Tigre, Tigrigna and Somali. There are other government owned radio stations in Ethiopia.
